The 2017 Frisco Bowl will be played on Dec. 20, 2017 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, between Louisiana Tech and SMU.
The game will be the inaugural game for the Frisco Bowl, which will feature a matchup of a team from the American Athletic Conference and a team from either the Mid-American Conference, the Sun Belt Conference or Conference USA. Independent BYU is also tied to this bowl game and could face off against the AAC team, according to the bowl’s website. Prior to becoming the Frisco Bowl, it was the Miami Beach Bowl from 2014-16 and was played at Marlins Park in Miami, Fla.

Frisco Bowl History
The Frisco Bowl will be played for the first time ever on Dec. 20.
The newly created bowl game is owned and operated by ESPN Events, which is in partnership with FC Dallas to host the game and its other events through 2019, and is affiliated with the AAC. The bowl is officially called the DXL Frisco Bowl. DXL is a men’s apparel store that sells XL men’s underwear, shoes, etc.
Toyota Stadium has a football capacity of 20,500, and is the home of DF Dallas of Major League Soccer. The stadium is also the host to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Championship Game since 2010.
Prior to becoming the Frisco Bowl, it was the Miami Beach Bowl from 2014-16, and was created and owned by the AAC. The Miami Beach Bowl featured a matchup of a team from the AAC against a team from either Conference USA, the MAC or the Sun Belt Conference. It was played at Marlins Park in Miami, Fla.
The first Miami Beach Bowl came on Dec. 22, 2014, and it saw Memphis and BYU face off. In the end, Memphis prevailed with a 55-48 victory in double overtime. The two teams traded blows on the field throughout the entire game, and when the game ended, the teams traded blows with one another. Following the game’s final play, a bench-clearing brawl took place on the field.
Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch took home the MVP for the game, as he completed 24 of his 46 passing attempts for 306 yards and 4 touchdowns, despite throwing 3 interceptions. In addition, Lynch rushed for 3 touchdowns, giving him 7 total scores for the game.
The second Miami Beach Bowl came on Dec. 21, 2015, and featured a matchup of Western Kentucky vs. South Florida. Western Kentucky came out on top in the game, 45-35, and Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty was awarded the MVP of the bowl game. Although he threw 2 interceptions in the win, Doughty completed 32 of his 44 passes for 461 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The third and final Miami Beach Bowl came last year on Dec. 19, 2016. Tulsa and Central Michigan took the field in the game, which ended in blowout fashion. Tulsa took the game, 55-10, and its quarterback Dane Evans won the game’s MVP award. Evans completed 28 of his 38 passes for 304 yards and 5 touchdowns en route to the convincing win.
In the Miami Beach Bowl’s three-year history, the AAC went 2-1, while Conference USA went 1-0. The MAC and independent teams both went 0-1 in the game.
